So you're making a creative writing bank? Great idea! This will really help you in the years to come. A lot of authors take the time to assembly banks like these to help when they're stuck in a writing block, or to assemble a cast of characters and places for another day.
They contain things like:

SettingsIn this section I have a few pictures to demonstrate the depth you can go into for writing descriptions of places.
Some questions to help:
The frozen tundra of Eastern Canada glimmers in the January sun. The trees sway in the icy wind that has stripped the leaves and berries from the berry bush. No birds sing in this desolate landscape, the only sound is that of ice cracking on the river and the crackling of snow under the wolf's paws.
The sun-kissed ruins of Hera's temple sleep silently waiting for her prophesied return to power. The mice that burrowed beneath the old stones tell no tales of the secret rooms and treasure beneath. Nor do they tell of the skeletal peacocks flapping their calcified wings in the dark spaces.
The sun sets on the valley casting shadows of lavender and rust across the home of all good mozzarella. When Claudette opened her hotel window she saw the white and black cows grazing on the emerald grass spread across the rolling hills at the feet of the mountains. She shouted with glee and began to yodel.

Writing PromptsIn this section I have a few different writing prompts.
For new and awesome ones each week - see Reedsy for the weekly writing prompt challenge: https://blog.reedsy.com/creative-writing-prompts/ Here's a list of writing competitions across Canada: https://www.cbc.ca/books/canadawrites/a-guide-to-writing-prizes-for-canadians-1.4110298 Set a timer for 1 minute and use the following words to write for the full minute. You can use both or just one:
"party" "engine" The party roared drowning out the sound of the firetruck engine racing by. Too many fireworks on a dry August day is what the newspapers will say Or...is it just that the firetruck is off to have an engine party at the local sta... Phew, that's all I got. What did you write? Now, set the timer for 2 minutes and try again:
"disco" "ice cream shop" Now try for 30 seconds on the timer "Reunion" "generator" Now try for five minutes: "Expeditionary" "conviction" |
Character SketchesIn this section I have a few open source images of people for you to write descriptions about.
Some questions to help you when describing characters: Physical attributes:
Thomas: Who is he? Thomas has been around the circus for as long as he can remember. His father was the Strongman and his mother was the snake charmer. Growing up among an eclectic group of people gave him all the skills he’d ever need and his best friend was one of the elephants, Hidalgo. He desperately wants to join the elephant riders, but his family and the head of the animal cages have been at odds for years.
14 years old, black hair and brown eyes. Well-muscled (his dad is the strong man!) and intelligent - his mom taught him how to stay a step ahead of the snakes she trains… Flaw: Deathly afraid of the dark - the circus is always well lit… Super socially awkward….his bff is an elephant…. |
